So many colors of summer

Today we watched dad wash his car.  Which just means I do a photoshoot with C on the lawn while cyclists zoom by thinking people cannot hear their conversations.  People can.  Sigh.

So here is my pretty lady.

I must also mention that today, a week into her seventh month, Caroline figured out how to sit up in her crib (up until now I had to get her to sitting) then pulled herself up to standing.  I fortunately dropped her crib to the middle setting last night.  Unfortunately that is not low enough.  Double sigh.

Road Trip

This weekend our little family traveled to Knoxville, Tennessee to celebrate the life of Mary Ann Miller and to support my Meghan and her family during this difficult transition.  It was so great to see the Freeman and Blum clans, but I only wish it could have been under better circumstances.

So when Megs said that her mama's funeral would be this past Saturday, we packed up Caroline (and the bazillion baby things she requires) and drove south.

No we didn't get to eat at Cracker Barrel...but we did eat at Sonny's :).  During this trip, we stayed at three different Marriott brands, and C did great in each situation.  First was the Fairfield Inn in Christiansburg, VA.

Free internet and free breakfast (I cannot resist making my own waffles...never gets old).

Then the Residence Inn in Knoxville where got all dolled up to be with Megs and her fam.

And how cute are these two together?  Heart melting...

Then we stayed in the Courtyard Roanoke Airport.  No free breakfast here, but thats okay, because we found Starbucks.

I have no photos of C with her friend-cousins Lily Ann, Ginny, Cadence, or Hudson.  Hopefully Mrs. Blum has one or two.  We are going to make a real effort to get together (and get our kids together) on an annual basis.

I love my besties and I love Mary Ann Miller.

Six Months Old!

Our baby has been with us for half a year.  We recently framed some black and white photos from her life until now to hang in our bedroom.  There are a few there from her first month or two and the transformation is amazing.  These six months have been much of what we expected but of course so much more.  We are so blessed to have such a vibrant, inquisitive, eager, strong little lady.

At six months old, Caroline...

  • Eats almost everything put before her.
  • Has two bottom teeth (both made their appearance in the last four days).
  • Squeals and coos and tests out lots of new sounds.
  • Has had a fever, runny nose, and cough (the second two also appearing in the last four days).
  • Gets SO EXCITED when her dad comes into sight.
  • Loves to stand, almost to exclusivity, and can hold on to something and stand on her own.
  • Can sit unassisted and pull up.
  • Locates and properly inserts her pacifiers.
  • Prefers snapping to clapping.
  • Finally realized that mom puts bows in her hair.

Photo of this last "skill" below :(  Hoping she is just interested in her hair, since if she refuses the hair clips then I worry about how we'll keep the hair out of her eyes in the future.

This weekend we did some house stuff (aka John did some attic and basement organizing while C and I played photoshoot) and enjoyed the gorgeous weather.

You can kinda see teeth in that one too!

More of Caroline at six months.

Wardrobe change!

Wardrobe change!

(How much does she look like Kris when she was a baby in the above?!?!)

Mama and Dad love you baby C!

First tooth!

Today I felt for sure and saw Caroline's first TOOTH!  Amazing.  She had a teeny fever today so I am going to attribute the fever to the tooth.  Second tooth seems to be only a few days behind.  Big girl!

Mothers Day

This morning we celebrated Mothers' Day in Potomac at James and Amanda's house.  Shelley and Genny were in town, and Caroline got to meet Grandma Vicki for the first time!

Double hug with O.

Dancing with Vicki and the cousins.

Caroline LOVES to stand these days.  She is nearly 6 months and can pull up on a lot of stuff.  She hasn't figured out crawling yet.  But she has sitting down pat.

Caroline is very ticklish and has the funniest guttural laugh.

SO excited to stand.

The oldest child of James and Amanda:

So handsome!

Caroline rode on dad a bit and tried cantaloupe (loved it) before we headed back downtown to relax and do some yard work.

Bouncing outside while we tooled around the yard.

Look at those leggies!

Smiles with friends

This weekend Caroline was full of smiles for her little and big friends!  First smiles for dad with some major bed head.

I am sorely lacking in photos of Caroline and Megan and Daiane, but here are a few I shot on Friday.  Megan is walking all over the place now, and she got her first haircut.  I think C is mimicking Megan's impression of her dog Riley, because she sure does pant a lot.

Saturday we went to Beth's for lunch with her girls and Aunt Marisa.  We got to spend some more time with little baby Catherine!  I am not sure Caroline has ever been so close to a younger baby before.  Catherine is good practice for Caroline's forthcoming baby boy cousin.

That pacifier lasted three seconds next to Catherine before Caroline went for it.

Leaving you with a few smiles and one big cheeky solemn face.  And one shot of Caroline working on her pre-crawl tilt.
